MATERIALS

Frame: organic beech

Beech is a domestic wood. It grows in the forests around Bad Münder, where “Iris” is manufactured. Neatly sanded, waxed and oiled, it shows its lasting beauty.

Shade: Lunopal

Lunopal is a high-performance shade material. It is remarkably heat-resistant and able to withstand temperatures of up to 100°C. It is classified as self-extinguishing (class K2/F1 acc. To DIN 53438).

Lunopal is transparent and has the appearance of fine Japanese paper. It consists of compressed polycarbonate fibres, which are used for high quality lighting fixtures. The completely environment-friendly material is unaffected by U.V. radiation and will not fade or yellow. Especially for architectural purposes, Lunopal has proved its quality.

  • Dimensions: H 24 cm, W 24 cm, D 16 cm
  • Weight: 0.65 kg net
  • For 1x E27 socket, max. 75 watts

Please note: the illuminant for Wall Fixture Iris is not included. We recommend you order one immediately as an accessory.

THE BACKGROUND OF THIS LIGHT SERIES

Wood as material

The use of natural materials and design appropriate to these materials are the principles behind this collection.

These lamp designs bring out the natural beauty of solid wood in a subtle way. Although wood lends itself perfectly to the design of lighting for interiors, it is also – due to the challenge of limited processing possibilities – a great challenge.

Every piece is unique

Wood is a product of time. The time a tree needs to grow. The years of maturing and drying. The time it takes to process the wood and finally the time it serves man.

Normally, wooden objects become more and more beautiful during years of use. Wood is an ‘open’ material - it takes in and it gives off. Wood is a living, working substance. Each piece is unique and variations in the surface structure cannot be avoided. But of course therein lies the genuine charm of natural wood.

Naturally ecological

We only use wood from controlled cultivation areas. These are primarily forests of the northern hemisphere, but also from other regions – the decisive factor is ecologically and socially sensible harvest of wood.

To a great extent, we refrain from using varnish in favour of vegetable oils and natural waxes that preserve the natural beauty of open-pored wood.

Other materials such as aluminum, slate, or steel harmonize well with wood and create great artistic scope for new designs.
